Bexar County Jail officials mistakenly freed an inmate earlier this month who was supposed to be held for another county, bringing the total number of botched releases in January to three.
Andrew Taylor Ford, 32, was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Dec. 28 on a misdemeanor charge of failure to stop and give information.
When he was booked, jailers overlooked an order to hold Ford on a charge out of San Patricio County, according to the sheriff’s office. He was released on Jan. 3 after his charge in Bexar County was dismissed.
According to a statement from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Ford surrendered to his probation officer in San Patricio County on Jan. 11 and has been in custody since.
“As a result of tracking down the error that lead to the release, Sheriff’s Administration has identified additional changes needed to the systems and practices with our new booking protocols,” the statement from the sheriff’s office reads. “Additionally, Sheriff Javier Salazar will be implementing upgrades to personnel training and changes in supervisory staff.”
The announcement comes less than a week after Salazar suspended the deputy overseeing the jail in the wake of another mistaken inmate release, the latest in a string of missteps at the detention facility over the past year.
